Halo, one of the most popular first person shooter video games in the gaming community worldwide, is going to the silver screen with an anthology of seven short anime films titled “Halo Legends” that are expected to be released sometime in the year 2010.

Microsoft is collaborating with Japanese anime studios to make the seven short action films based on the Halo blockbuster videogame franchise.

According to Microsoft, the Halo Legends project is bringing together the science fiction videogame with “a renowned set of storytellers” from famous Japanese anime studios to take the franchise “to a new level.”

The game trilogy of Halo was created specifically for Microsoft’s Xbox videogame consoles was created by Bungie and owned and published by Microsoft Game Studios, first released in 2001. The videogames center on the adventures of a super soldier known as Master Chief who is defending mankind against an invading alien alliance referred to as The Covenant.
Since then there have been many sequels and spin-offs that have intrigued gamers around the world. It has been adapted into books, comics and now into anime.

The production team for the seven-part anime series has big names like Steven Spielberg, The BONES, Casio Entertainment, Production I.G., Studio 4°C, and Toei Animation anime studios working on the short films. The creative staff of Microsoft will be approving the visuals and storytelling.

If things go according to plan, Warner Brothers will release the anthology on DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and digital distribution in early 2010. Trailer for the Halo panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con International (CCI) are already out, and Xbox 360 users can see a preview this fall on the Xbox Live service.

Three of the creative directors are Frank O’Connor of Microsoft’s 343 Industries, Shinji Aramaki, and Mamoru Oshii. J-Spec Pictures’ Joseph Chou is also in the production team. The short film by Aramaki will be covering the story of the history of the Spartan warrior class from the games. Studio 4°C will animate two 30-minute shorts about “the entire 100,000 year history of the Halo universe.” Toei’s short film on the other hand “is outside of the official canon and pokes fun at some of the game’s characters.”

“Halo and its characters are a very natural fit for anime,” said Aramaki. “As a fan of the Halo universe, it is an honor to work with Microsoft and my very talented peers from other studios to create this collection.”

Microsoft representatives have said that Halo Legends will be a compilation of short stories incorporating characters and themes from the videogame franchise. The Japanese studios involved with the Halo Legends anime project include creators of popular works such as “Fullmetal Alchemist” and “The Animatrix” which are considered all-time anime classics, according to the Redmond, Washington-based technology giant.

“The opportunity to work with talents such as Shinji Aramaki, Mamoru Oshii and others from some of the greatest anime studios is a very rare opportunity for Microsoft,” said Halo franchise development director Frank O’Connor.“We’ve seen the world through Master Chief’s eyes, and we’ve experienced facets of the universe through a variety of literary prisms, but now we get to watch new tales unfold in really rich, visually dynamic ways.”

The Halo anime will premier on the Xbox Live online entertainment platform linked to the Microsoft consoles. The Halo Legends Movie collection will be distributed by Warner Home Video, with release plans to be announced.
“The combination of the talent involved and the Halo brand ensure the collection is something consumers are really going to enjoy,” said Amit Desai, vice president of Family, Animation and Partner Brands marketing at Warner.

The rumor about Final Fantasy XIII saying that it will be made exclusively for PS3 is not true!. That is until Yoichi Wada who is the President of Square Enix made announcement about the release of Final Fantasy 13 XBOX 360 during the Microsoft Keynote E3 2008.

The PS3 and XBOX version of RPG Final Fantasy XIII will be released simulataneously in Europe and the U.S. on unknown date. In addition only the PS3 version of the Final Fantasy 13 will be released in Japan.

Whether you are a newbie or not, you will definitely love the seemingly endless fun attached with the Call of Duty 4 (COD4) multiplayer mode. 18 players can go online and duke it out on one or all of the 16 COD4 maps available. I love the great variety of maps and the freedom to either go to battle in wide open areas or enter close quarter combats in smaller spaces. There are six game modes available for your multiplayer gaming pleasure ranging from the usual team deathmatch to the thrilling capture-the-flag mode.

If you managed to string good kill combos, you’ll earn great perks that come in the form of the ability to request for a UAV drone that reveals the hiding place of your enemies for a full 30 seconds. Make five consecutive kills without expiring, and you’ll be able to unleash a terrifying air strike upon your unsuspecting enemies.

I find collecting all the Golden Weapons in the game too irresistible and will not stop until I get my hands on them all. To get a Golden AK-47, you need to complete all challenges under the Assault Rifle and to add a Golden Desert Eagle to your collection, just get to Level 55. Happy collecting!

Long before this game was released on the XBOX 360, the world was treated to stylized images of Niko Bellic and the deliciously sultry chick with a lollipop balanced precariously upon the tip of her tongue. It was this steamy female, whose name was rumored to be Lola del Rio, which got me intrigued and not the Russian lead character in Grand Theft Auto IV, one of the most anticipated game of the year. Along with the rest of the gaming population, I am still wondering if Rockstar made her out to be a character or merely part of their marketing gimmick to attract potential buyers who were smitten with Miss Lollipop.

Anyway, I digress. In GTA IV, you play as Niko Bellic, a Russian immigrant who has just arrived in Liberty City (which bears an uncanny resemblance to New York, down to the Statue of Liberty) to have a taste of the great American dream. He lives with his Cousin Roman and does various odd jobs from picking up girls, delivering questionable packages and yes, stealing cars ranging from the common GT to a deliciously sleek Aston Martin.

GTA IV Tips

Some achievements are tough to well, achieve in this game. I find the “Rolled Over” achievement among the hardest. A tip for those who want the allocated 30 points: Just head over to the airport and seek out a series of ramps, try to do at least five flips while airborne and voila, achievement unlocked! Snapping at the heels of Guitar Hero III is Rock Band, a similar rhythm game that gives players the freedom to pretend that they are a rock star, AND lets them get away with it too.

I am amazed how no one has thought about pitting players against armed with a guitar, bass, drums and their vocal prowess against each other before, but developer Harmonix obviously has a gem in their hands with Rock Band. This game is more about cooperative multiplayer than anything, because obviously you cannot form a rock band all on your own! Players basically team up in a rock band to create performances and gain the highest scores together as they play a medley of 40 officially licensed musical tracks.

If you already own Guitar Hero and think that getting Rock Band is a waste of time, do rethink your decision. The guitar in Rock Band is a little larger and sports a longer neck than Guitar Hero’s. Most notable differences are the bigger fret keys and a secondary set of buttons that lets you perform solos. It also have built-in effects switcher which lets you incorporate echo, flange and other effects into the songs you play.

Overall, this is a great party game. Those who play it will not be bored with the endless opportunities of switching roles in their “rock band”. Karaoke anyone?

Nothing much has changed in the game play although enemies’ Artificial Intelligence has been slightly increased. Another notable feature is the ACES system that stands for “Advanced Combat Enhancement and Specialization”. Players will be given a great array of weapons depending on the tactics employed to progress through the game, namely Marksman, Assault and CQB (Close Quarter Battle). Translated, this means that if one of your opponents fell by Headshot, you might unlock a spiffy new sniper riffle thanks to the Marksman division as detected by the ACES system.

Regrettably, this game suffered from a barrage of bugs that resulted in tons of complains from loyal fans of the franchise. Lag has been known to occur not only in multiplayer modes but also when one tries to complete the story mode alone. And the biggest let down came in the form of the “Freedom Shall Prevail” achievement. Some players reported that they did not manage to unlock that particular achievement even though they completed the story mode on Realistic difficulty. This was quickly rectified with a timely update from Ubisoft. I am glad that was remedied. Call me a gamer score whore but I could never get over not having 75 points added to the final tally even after finishing the game!
