By now, half of the world’s population, if not more, is immersed in the revolutionary game play of Nintendo Wii. Made available to the public in November 2006, the Nintendo Wii Console was created to succeed the Nintendo Gamecube. New that it is deemed backward compatible is music to the ears of both type of Nintendo fans: the first who have already owned a Gamecube and the second group of fans who can now enjoy old-but-gold Nintendo Gamecube games.

Before fans got a whiff of the Wii, Nintendo announced its codename “Revolution” and drew much criticism from various parties that said this name was rather pretentious and frivolous, indirectly doubting that the Wii can revolutionize the gaming industry. Critics were proven wrong when the Wii finally made its appearance, and Nintendo revealed the reason behind the name. “Wii” sounds like “we” and this generalization shows that Nintendo is determined to create a gaming console that’s fit for everyone.
The Wii comes bundled with a Wiimote, a remote-like peripheral with infrared sensor to detect its position in three dimensional space when directed to the Sensor Bar placed beneath the television. To date, the Wii has enjoyed unrivalled popularity with 24.45 million units being sold as of March 2008. While next-gen consoles such as the XBOX 360 and the PS3 are locking horns endlessly, the Nintendo Wii concentrated their efforts to create better games for the entire family. Backed by a barrage of best selling games such as Mario Galaxy, Zelda and Super Smash Brothers Brawl, the Wii proved to critics that its position as a revolutionary gaming console cannot be denied.
